## Narrative
**Leyzor Blusztajn** — recorded in the town's Treasury papers as **Lejzor Blusztein** — was a Łęczna Jew, born there about 1822, son of [[Abram Blusztajn (b.1781)]] and [[Rajzla (b.1784)]]. He belonged to one of Łęczna's established Jewish families: his father Abram sat on the town's Jewish supervisory board in 1834, and Blusztajns recur through the town records across the century.
He first appears in his own right as a young man of about eighteen, on the wrong side of the excise. When the Łęczna Treasury office drew up its **register of persons who had defrauded the 1840 consumption tax on vodka** (compiled 24 March / 5 April 1841), his name stood as **entry 11 — "Lejzor Blusztein," charged with 1 *garniec* 1 *kwarta*** of untaxed vodka.[^defraud] His was among the smallest amounts on a list running to some ninety-four *garnce*; other townsmen of the family appear on the same sheet — a joint entry for **Tojna and Danhil Blusztein** (with Abraham Abuś Wasman) for five *garnce*, and, a couple of lines below Leyzor, the tavern-keeper and former propination-lessee **[[Chaim Edelsztajn (b.1779)]]** for six.[^defraud] Petty evasion of the vodka duty was an ordinary feature of a small Jewish trading town where much of the household economy turned on liquor.
He married Fayga Hochman. He was still — or again — living in Łęczna at mid-century: the town's **1866 liquidation table** records him as the holder of two household plots, No. 332 and No. 436, entered in Cyrillic as *"Блюнштейнъ Лейзоръ."*[^liq]

## Research
*(your reasoning — preserved across every rebuild)*
**Recorded spellings:** *Blusztajn* (vault/GEDCOM), **Blusztein / Blusztyn** (1840 Treasury register), *Блюнштейнъ* (Cyrillic, 1866 table). Given name *Leyzor / Lejzor*.
**1840 vodka consumption-tax defraud register — *Miasto Łęczna* vol. VIII (AGAD 1/191/0/-/3648, jedn. 17742785), read from the scan 2026-07-06.**
- **Entry 11: "Lejzor Blusztein" — 1 *garniec* 1 *kwarta*** of vodka, on the Łęczna Treasury's register of 1840 consumption-tax defrauders (compiled 24 Mar / 5 Apr 1841). sc.[125](https://www.szukajwarchiwach.gov.pl/en/jednostka/-/jednostka/17742785?p_p_id=Jednostka&_Jednostka_delta=1&_Jednostka_cur=125).
- **Identification — confirmed by disambiguation.** The vault holds two Leyzor Blusztajn: **this one (b.1822)** and **[[Leyzor Blusztajn (d.1836)]]**. The latter was already dead by 1840, so the 1840 register can only be **this** man (b.1822, then ~18) — himself continuous with the *"Лейзоръ Блюнштейнъ"* who held Łęczna plots 332 & 436 on the 1866 table.

## Open questions
- **Tojna and Danhil (Daniel?) Blusztein — further Łęczna Blusztajn family, not in the vault.** They appear jointly (entry 8, with Abraham Abuś Wasman) on the same 1840 vodka-defraud register (jedn. 17742785, sc.[125](https://www.szukajwarchiwach.gov.pl/en/jednostka/-/jednostka/17742785?p_p_id=Jednostka&_Jednostka_delta=1&_Jednostka_cur=125)). Relationship to Leyzor (b.1822) / his father [[Abram Blusztajn (b.1781)]] unknown — likely kin. No matching profile found (searched 2026-07-06). Flag for a possible new-profile decision.
