As a salesman, he sold household items such as thread, needles and buttons. He sold them by going from house to house. It was not uncommon for him to travel for a few days but he almost always came back home for Shabbat. The lumber yard was not far from his house, so he was able to come home every evening. He was the foreman, making sure that the workers cut wood to the right measurements. The lumber yard was in Zhdenijevo.
