It was after midnight and was therefore now Sunday, Mother's Day, 1969. He was only 44. Over 100 of his students insisted on attending his funeral; which resulted in the school pulling several school district buses into service to transport them to the funeral. He was greatly missed by many, in addition to his immediate family. He and his teaching had touched uncountable lives.   He had enlisted in the Navy after Pearl Harbor Day, even tho' he was only 17. He asked his father to sign for him, but said he'd be enlisting either way. Jacob signed the papers allowing him to enlist.
