## Narrative
Jakob (Yaakov) Goldfischer was born in 1851, recorded in the vault as [[Stryj]].[^birth] He was a son of [[József Goldfischer (b.1825)]], a day laborer working in various trades, and [[Hinde Fischer (d.1906)]], and grew up among a large sibling group that included [[Yitzchak Isaac Goldfischer (b.1840)]], [[Yehuda Goldfischer (b.1845)]], [[Zev Wolf Goldfischer (b.1845)]], [[Beril Goldfischer (b.1849)]], and [[Chaim Goldfischer (b.1853)]].[^auto]
Family tradition, preserved through Uncle Eliezer Goldfischer, remembers him as a student of the Kedushas Yom Tov, the Sigheter Rav (father of the Atzei Chaim).[^auto] The same tradition records that his rabbi's authority governed his personal life: after a divorce, he was married for about ten years to a woman with whom he had no children, and the couple divorced only after he obtained the Kedushas Yom Tov's permission.[^auto] He then married the woman remembered as Bubby Sushe (Soshe).[^auto] After her death in 1909 he remarried in [[Kryva]], to [[Rachel Itzkowitz (b.1877)]], and remained there until his own death in 1926.[^auto][^spouses]
Among his children were [[Yosef Goldfischer (b.1899)]], [[Yutta Goldfischer (b.1902)]], and [[Shalom Goldfischer (b.1878)]] — two of whom carry the family's descent forward through separate lines that later reconverge.[^auto]
A single small photograph of him survived; after his death his son "Zaidy Yossel" paid a German painter to render it in color, and it hung in the family dining room in Berlin. When Sarah Yutta visited around 1931–32 and saw the painting, she remarked that it gave her good thoughts, and she shed a tear.[^auto] Jakob Goldfischer died on 23 March 1926 in Kryva.[^auto]
[^birth]: Frontmatter and GEDCOM vitals: born 06/19/1851, [[Stryj]]; died 03/23/1926, [[Kryva]]. A later civil record transcribed in the MyHeritage biography instead gives 1855 in Berezna — see `## Research` and `## Open questions`.
[^auto]: `### Biography — from MyHeritage`, MyHeritage biography (GEDCOM I500048, Bernstein tree), drawing on family recollection attributed to Uncle Eliezer Goldfischer and to "Bubby Maryam."
[^spouses]: recorded spouse list: [[Szasza Simonovitz (b.1876)]], [[Sura Yuta Reiter (b.1855)]], [[Rachel Itzkowitz (b.1877)]], [[Unknown (27)]]. The narrative's "Bubby Sushe/Soshe" and the ten-year childless marriage are not yet firmly mapped to these frontmatter entries — see `## Open questions`.
## Research
*(your reasoning — preserved across every rebuild)*
- **Late birth-record transcription (MyHeritage biography).** A German-language civil birth record translated in the MyHeritage biography gives: child "Jakab," boy; place and date of birth Berezna, 28 September 1855, 9 am; father the late [[József Goldfischer (b.1825)]], day laborer in different branches, resident of Berezna; mother [[Hinde Fischer (d.1906)]], born in and resident of Berezna. The birth was reported (registered late) in Berezna on 8 October 1906 by Jakab Goldfischer himself, under Permission #1531/096 of the High Sheriff. The scan is filed as `I500048_5.jpg` / `Alsobisztra-B-1906-1906-004` in the the record media gallery. Note the record's stated 1855 birth year and Berezna birthplace conflict with the vault vitals (1851, Stryj) — see Open questions.
## Evidence
## Open questions
- **Birth year and place conflict.** Vault vitals give 1851, Stryj; the late civil birth record (registered 1906, transcribed in the MyHeritage biography) gives 28 September 1855, Berezna. Resolve which is correct — the 1906 record may itself be a late/approximate registration.
- **Map narrative spouses to frontmatter.** Reconcile the tradition's "Bubby Sushe/Soshe" (died 1909) and the ten-year childless marriage against the four listed spouses ([[Szasza Simonovitz (b.1876)]], [[Sura Yuta Reiter (b.1855)]], [[Rachel Itzkowitz (b.1877)]], [[Unknown (27)]]). Is "Sarah Yutta"/"Sura Yuta Reiter" the same as the mourning widow in the painting anecdote?
- **Confirm the birth record image** (`I500048_5.jpg` / `Alsobisztra-B-1906-1906-004`) and, if it supports a definite fact, crop it into `## Evidence` per the evidence-image rule.
