## Overview
São Paulo is Brazil's largest city and home to the country's largest Jewish community. Jewish settlement grew from the early 20th century through Eastern European immigration, with the **Bom Retiro** neighborhood becoming the historic heart of Jewish life (later spreading to Higienópolis and other districts). The community — predominantly Ashkenazi, with significant Sephardi and Central European refugee components — supports an extensive network of synagogues, schools, and the Congregação Israelita Paulista, making São Paulo one of the principal centers of Jewish life in Latin America.
