Though the name is ancient — Ashdod was one of the five Philistine city-states — the modern city was founded in 1956 and incorporated in 1968. It is home to Israel's largest seaport and one of the country's largest cities by population, with a substantial community of immigrants from the former Soviet Union and elsewhere. Sources: Wikipedia — Ashdod; Geodatos — Ashdod coordinates. ## People with events here | Person | Event | | --- | --- | | [[Mordechai Aryeh Weisz (b.1992)]] | Born 03/30/1992 | | [[Leah Rachel Weltzer (b.1993)]] | Born 06/17/1993 | | [[Rudya Chana Liba Weisz (b.1994)]] | Born 04/15/1994 | | [[Shimon Weisz (b.1999)]] | Born 08/17/1999 | | [[Esther Devorah Weisz (b.2000)]] | Born 02/02/2000 | | [[Chaim Weisz (b.2011)]] | Born 04/19/2011 |
