# Palestine
**Not a town — a historical region / country label.** "Palestine" appears in these records as the geographic and administrative name for the land before the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948: Ottoman Palestine through 1917–18, then the British Mandate for Palestine (1920–1948). Many "born Palestine" / "died Palestine" entries predate 1948 and simply mean the person was born or died somewhere in Mandatory Palestine / the Yishuv, without a recorded town.
Where a more specific place (Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Jaffa, Safed, Tiberias, a moshava, etc.) can be recovered from the underlying source, the person profile should be updated to that town; this note exists as a catch-all for entries where only the country/region was recorded. No town-level coordinates apply.
