## Overview
Gorzków, a private noble town granted urban status in 1689 with market and fair rights, lost its town status in the second half of the 19th century under Russian rule. A Jewish community is recorded from the late 17th century; until the mid-19th century it was poor and used the cemetery in Turobin, establishing its own cemetery after 1843, and numbered 434 Jews in 1921. During World War II the Germans used Gorzków as a settlement point for deported Czech and German Jews alongside Izbica and Krasniczyn; the local and resettled Jews were sent to slave labor and to the Bełżec extermination camp in 1942, and a mass execution occurred at the local cemetery.
