Jews lived there from the 17th century (right of permanent residence 1639), and the town became a major Hasidic center when Rabbi Menachem Mendel Morgenstern, the Kotzker Rebbe (1787–1859), settled there in 1829 and founded the Kotzk dynasty. The 1921 Jewish population was 2,092 (≈53.6%); under occupation the Jews were deported in 1942 to Treblinka, with only ~30 survivors. Sources: Wikipedia — Kock, Wikipedia — Kotzk, JewishGen — Kock ## People with events here | Person | Event | | --- | --- | | [[Chaim Gierszon Glajchgewicht (b.1825)]] | Born ~1825, Died 1887 | | [[Jankiel Kaufman (b.1826)]] | Born ~1826 | | [[Tauba Gradowiecki (b.1827)]] | Born ~1827 | | [[Dawid Nuta Glajchgewicht (b.1829)]] | Born 1829 | | [[Mejer Glajchgewicht (b.1785)]] | Died 1832 | | [[Icko Gradowiecki (d.1835)]] | Died 1835 | | [[Boruch Szmul Gradowiecki (b.1836)]] | Born 1836, Died 1836 | | [[Jankiel Szyia Morgensztern (b.1836)]] | Born 1836 | | [[Abram Gradowiecki (b.1838)]] | Born 1838, Died 1846 | | [[Leywa Icek Gradowiecki (b.1838)]] | Born 1838 | | [[Sura Czyna Morgensztern (b.1839)]] | Born 1839 | | [[Chaim Srul Morgensztern (b.1840)]] | Born 1840 | | [[Cweta Gradowiecki (b.1842)]] | Born 1842 | | [[Berek Gradowiecki (b.1802)]] | Died 01/14/1844 | | [[Lejba Zelik Gradowiecki (b.1845)]] | Born 1845 | | [[Berek Hus (b.1847)]] | Died 1847 | | [[Jankiel Gradowiecki (b.1800)]] | Died 05/13/1847 | | [[Majer Jankiel Glajchgewicht (b.1848)]] | Born 1848 | | [[Ryfka Gitla Glajchgewicht (b.1849)]] | Born 1849 | | [[Eyzyk Gradowiecki (d.1850)]] | Died 1850 | | [[Jankiel Chaim Hus (b.1852)]] | Born 1852 | | [[PLACEHOLDER Ryfka Golda Gradowiecki (b.1793)]] | Died 07/18/1853 | | [[Szmul Borensztejn (b.1855)]] | Born 10/16/1855 | | [[Chaja Hus (b.1857)]] | Born 1857 | | [[Chil Wajnrajch (b.1857)]] | Born 07/15/1857 | | [[Menachem Mendel Morgensztern (b.1787)]] | Died 01/27/1859 | | [[Nochma Hus (b.1860)]] | Born 1860 | | [[Cyrla Hus (b.1864)]] | Born 1864 | | [[Malka Glajchgewicht (b.1865)]] | Born 1865 | | [[Sura Glika Hus (b.1868)]] | Born 1868, Died 1869 | | [[Szmul Pinches Bakalarz (b.1870)]] | Born 1870 | | [[Dawid Morgensztern (b.1809)]] | Died 07/17/1873 | | [[Szmul Icek Glajchgewicht (b.1875)]] | Born 1875 | | [[Sura Mindla Glajchgewicht (b.1877)]] | Born 1877 | | [[Sura Gitla Balter (b.1881)]] | Born 09/20/1881 | | [[Hela Wajnrajch (b.1901)]] | Born 09/15/1901 | | [[Golda Chawa Gunzberg (b.1843)]] | Died 1906 | | [[Dawid Hersz Wajnrajch (b.1908)]] | Born 10/28/1908 | | [[Natan Wigdor Wajnrajch (b.1908)]] | Born 10/28/1908 | | [[Chaja Helfenbaum (b.1910)]] | Born 07/13/1910 |
