## Overview
Jews settled in Radzyń Podlaski during the 16th century, and by the 19th century the town had become an important center of Jewish learning and the seat of the Radzyn Hasidic dynasty founded by Rebbe Gershon Henoch Leiner (1839–1890). In 1907 the town had 6,327 inhabitants, of whom 3,735 (about 59%) were Jews, supporting a synagogue, a house of prayer, and two cemeteries. During the German occupation the community was destroyed: in 1942 the local Jews were deported to the Treblinka extermination camp, some via the transit point in the Międzyrzec Podlaski ghetto. Only about twenty Jews survived, and the community was never reconstituted.
