An organized Jewish community existed by the early 16th century, with a Renaissance synagogue built in the late 1500s; Jews were 2,644 (~42%) by 1921. During the Holocaust over 5,500 Jews were deported in six transports (May–Nov 1942) to the Bełżec extermination camp. Sources: Wikipedia — Szczebrzeszyn, Jewish Virtual Library, Holocaust Historical Society ## People with events here | Person | Event | | --- | --- | | [[Hinda Falkenheim (b.1775)]] | Born ~1775, Died 12/11/1880 | | [[Rubin Cukier (b.1793)]] | Born 1793 | | [[Abram Hersz Cukier (b.1830)]] | Born ~1830 | | [[Ejle Cukier (b.1839)]] | Born 1839 | | [[Icek Falkenheim (b.1849)]] | Born 1849 | | [[Zelman Falkenheim (b.1849)]] | Born ~1849, Died 06/06/1851 | | [[Ryfka Falkenheim (b.1851)]] | Born 1851 | | [[Fajga Ruchla Falkenheim (b.1852)]] | Born 1852 | | [[Hudes Cukier (d.1857)]] | Died 1857 | | [[Dwojra Falkenheim (b.1857)]] | Born 1857, Died 11/21/1857 | | [[Chana Chuma Falkenheim (b.1875)]] | Born ~1875 | | [[Chaja Zimmerman (b.1876)]] | Born ~1876 | | [[Chaja Sura (b.1854)]] | Died 09/30/1878 | | [[Hena Laja Griner (b.1882)]] | Born 1882 | | [[Ethel Greene (b.1884)]] | Born 1884 | | [[Jacob Greene (b.1888)]] | Born 04/05/1888 | | [[Anna Drier (b.1891)]] | Born ~1891 | | [[Anna Greene (b.1891)]] | Born 1891 | | [[Majer Falkenheim (b.1829)]] | Died 06/05/1893 | | [[Sura Spitz (b.1904) (2)]] | Born 1904 | | [[Sura Spitz (b.1904) (3)]] | Born 1904 | | [[Sala Bajczer (b.1910)]] | Born 04/29/1910 |
