At the collapse of Austria-Hungary in 1918, many of its Jews, including the long-serving rabbi, were driven out by a pogrom, and the small remnant that remained or returned was destroyed in the Holocaust after the Slovak State's 1942 anti-Jewish laws authorized deportations to occupied Poland.
