## Overview
Bayonne is a city in Hudson County, New Jersey, occupying a peninsula between Newark Bay and New York Bay, just south of Jersey City. An industrial and refining center from the late 19th century, it attracted a sizable Eastern European Jewish immigrant community that built several synagogues and a cohesive Jewish neighborhood life through the early and mid 20th century, before much of the community relocated to suburban New Jersey in later decades.
