## Overview
Bortniki (Ukrainian **Bortnyky**) is a village in the historic region of Eastern Galicia, now in Lviv Oblast, Ukraine. The Jewish Galicia & Bukovina archive records a "Bortniki" community in the Bóbrka (Bibrka) district of Lwów province with archival documentation dating to 1906, and Wikidata lists a Bortnyky in the neighbouring Zhydachiv area — both lie in the belt south of Lviv whose Jewish life was administered from the district town of Zhydachiv (which had a Jewish rabbinical school from 1800). Galician Jews in such villages came under Nazi occupation in mid-1941, and the region's Jews were deported to the Bełżec extermination camp in 1942.
**Identification note / flag:** There are several villages named Bortnyky in western Ukraine (at least in the Bibrka and Zhydachiv districts of Lviv Oblast). The exact village intended by this record is not certain, and published coordinates were not confirmed for the specific one; the figure above is approximate for the Zhydachiv-area Bortnyky and should be verified before being relied upon. No Hebrew/Yiddish community name was located.
