## Overview
Drohobych, first documented in 1387, was a Galician salt- and oil-industry town and district seat; before WWII its Jewish community was ~15,000 (~40%). Under occupation a ghetto was established in 1942 and most Jews deported to Bełżec during 1942, the ghetto finally liquidated in June 1943 with only ~800 surviving. It was the home of the Polish-Jewish writer Bruno Schulz, shot in the ghetto in 1942.
