Jewish vital-registration records survive, with the earliest entries dating to 1837, confirming an established 19th-century Jewish community. As part of Subcarpathian Ruthenia, its Jews were caught in the May–June 1944 Hungarian deportations, when more than 100,000 Zakarpattian Jews were sent to Auschwitz. Specific local peak-population figures were not located. Sources: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volovets, https://www.jewishgen.org/sub-carpathia/GEO_town.asp?id=1058755 ## People with events here | Person | Event | | --- | --- | | [[Betzalel Katz (b.1855)]] | Born 1855 | | [[Sheindel Apfeldorfer (b.1879)]] | Born 05/31/1879 | | [[Sarah Sherach Apfeldorfer (b.1882)]] | Born 12/12/1882 | | [[Lajos Katz (b.1889)]] | Born 06/16/1889 | | [[Zelda Katz (b.1907)]] | Born 1907 | | [[Esther Steinberg (b.1924)]] | Born 1924 | | [[Esther Malka Katz]] | Born | | [[Gittel Perel Katz (d.1979)]] | Born |
