By the 1910 census the town had about 2,237 Jews (28.6% of 7,811 residents). Under Hungarian control during WWII a ghetto was set up in spring 1944, and from May to June 1944 the Jews of the area were confined briefly in overcrowded conditions and then deported to Auschwitz, where most were murdered on arrival. The few who returned afterward largely left under Soviet rule. The traditional Yiddish name Selish (סעליש) derives from Sevluš; no distinct historical Hebrew name was found, so the Hebrew field is left empty. Sources: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vynohradiv, https://45aid.org/location/velka-sevljus-czechoslovakia-now-vynohradiv-ukraine/, https://www.jewishgen.org/Sub-carpathia/GEO_town.asp?id=1059118 ## People with events here | Person | Event | | --- | --- | | [[Frieda Hinda Newman (b.1906)]] | Born 1906 | | [[Cecilie Friedman (b.1908)]] | Born 10/01/1908 | | [[Markus Friedman (b.1910)]] | Born 06/01/1910 | | [[Chaya Grosz (b.1879)]] | Died 08/1910 | | [[Yisrael Yaakov Friedman (b.1912)]] | Born 08/17/1912 | | [[Ilona Friedman (b.1914)]] | Born 09/01/1914, Died 04/1916 | | [[Efraim Fishel Friedman (b.1915)]] | Born 11/01/1915 | | [[Raizel Friedman (b.1918)]] | Born 12/12/1918 | | [[Rose Friedman (b.1920)]] | Born 12/12/1920 | | [[Shalom Yosef Friedman (b.1922)]] | Born 1922 | | [[Lipot Friedman (b.1924)]] | Born 11/1924 | | [[Jenö Friedman (b.1927)]] | Born 01/22/1927 | | [[Chana Zissel Halpert (b.1880)]] | Died 03/07/1933 | | [[Samuel Friedman (b.1936)]] | Born 10/1936 |
